Challenge 11: PLN

The only PLN websites I normally use is the SAPL intranet, Pinterest and Amazon.com (for searching of updated books for certain authors),  Novelist and Wowbrary.  I will try and expand the PLN websites as I search for new sources to help with my job.  But for now it’s just the basics. 🙂

Lesson 10 Challenge: Let’s Map this!

Using Google Maps I requested the bus route using the icon of the bus and entered my branch location and then the location of where they were going.  Here is the results.  Anyone can map the route by modes of transportation if they wish.

Lesson 9 Challenge

I used Google’s Made With Code to make my design.  Useful if you want to make a display for your library.  I think I will practice some more. 🙂

Lesson 8 Challenge (Option 1)

I decided to conduct a virtual interview with a patron.  The benefits to having a meeting online would be saving travel time and late interviews due to traffic or developing problems.  The only inconveniences to online would probably consist of difficulty with connecting online due to the device or bad weather which can sometimes be an issue.

I believe this might cause less stress to the person being interviewed due to the fact that you’re not in front of others.  We could even try to connect to multiple staff without being in the same room like some corporations do with conferences or board meetings.  In this case everyone would be able to make the meeting without sacrificing time away from their work area.

Communication using virtual technology can be beneficial to some and maybe not to others, I guess it would depend on the company and what they are trying to acquire.

Lesson 7  Challenge

This is sooo cute.  Just had to post it.

Lesson 6 Challenge

My book is “Love in the time of Cholera” by Garcia Marquez

I like the fact that Novelist can find similar books concerning courtships that are character-driven and the writing style to be lyrical.   Novelist suggested Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks and Possession by A.S. Byatt…  to name a few.

Novelist also provides the chance to get Book Display Ideas, plus Grab and Go Book Lists.  It provides not only information that is helpful to the patrons but to the library as well.

Lesson 5 Challenge

I recommend using the LearningExpress Library to patrons who often take nursing or asvab tests.   But is nice to know that in the Job and Career Accelerator the person can learn about the job searching for and doing their resumes.  It was easy and very helpful.

Lesson 4 Challenge 2:

The May 2001 issue has 29 articles and Consumer Reports volume 80, issue 9 has 26 articles.

Lesson 4: Challenge 1:

There are 14 articles in the June 2014 issue of Consumer Reports.

Lesson 3 Challenge

I only knew that we used  ThinkStock Photos and it is nice to know there are other resources.  They may be some resources that could benefit us in the future.
